You Never Know Where You'll Find a Groton Grad
You never know when or where you are going to run into a Groton graduate. So it should not have been a total surprise when Headmaster Rick Commons was greeted by a Korean solider while visiting the DMZ on his trip Asia in March. The soldier was Jay Cho ’08, in the middle of his two-year Korean military service commitment. The visit to the DMZ was a highlight of Rick’s nearly two weeks visiting Groton graduates, current and past parents, current students, and friends of the School along the western edge of the Pacific Rim.

Receptions were held in Seoul, Beijing, and Hong Kong, along with sightseeing and other opportunities to connect with Grotonians who rarely get the chance to return to the Circle. In addition to the visit to the DMZ, Rick, his wife Lindsay, and Betsy Lawrence ’82 visited the Forbidden City in Beijing and crossed Tiananmen Square. They reported that visit as a sobering yet remarkable experience.
